Cannabidiol is one of the major phytocannabinoids of Cannabis. There are 110 listed. Among them, CBD and THC are the main active ingredients of the plant. Unlike THC, CBD has no euphoric effect and does not affect your brain. It has been recognized by the World Health Organization as non-addictive, non-toxic, safe and well tolerated when consumed, even in high doses. CBD is extracted from the flowers of Cannabis Sativa varieties. Authorized cannabis varieties (<0.2% THC).
In the 1990s, cannabinoid receptors were discovered. They can be compared to a lock, when a key (here CBD) attaches to the receiver, it triggers a biological effect on your body.
CB1 receptors, mainly located in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), as well as in the peripheral nervous system. CB2 receptors are found in parts of the immune system, including the spleen, and on different organs, such as the lungs. They act in particular on inflammation, which explains why cannabidiol can accompany you in your sports practices.
Once these two receptors were discovered, several molecules synthesized by our body were isolated. They have been called “endocannabinoids”. Among these, anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG). 2-AG, like cannabis cannabinoids, would protect us from stress and anxiety. Anandamide mimics the pharmacological and behavioural effects of cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. It is produced as a result of a stimulus, a stress for example, to regulate the balance of our body during variations of our environment. It is therefore also very interesting during your periods of significant stress. A study has even shown its interest when speaking in public!

The couple composed of the cannabinoid receptor network and endocannabinoid molecules is called the "endocannabinoid system". This is a major discovery for scientists because this system, distributed throughout our body, is essential for the balance of many functions, such as pain, anxiety and well-being.
Like opiates, with their endogenous opioid system (opiate receptors and endorphins were discovered in the 1970s), the discovery of the endocannabinoid system, its receptors and endocannabinoids, shows that cannabis has its own system within our body, as it regulates many functions, such as pain, appetite and motor skills.
4 The 4 main objectives of the endocannabinoid system include neuroprotection, stress recovery, immune balance and homeostatic regulation.
This discovery is the starting point for all ongoing studies on cannabidiol, which continue to develop.
To date, there are nearly 8,000 studies on cannabidiol published on PubMed. The interest generated by the high potential of CBD continues to grow in the medical research community, and we are only at the beginnings of scientific discoveries around medical cannabis.
The French government has just decreed in October 2020 the French experimentation of medical cannabis, and has therefore appointed a temporary scientific committee, composed of 18 scientific experts and patient representatives, to ensure the implementation of the experiment.
It should make it possible to test, in a real-life situation, the smooth running of the prescription and delivery circuit between health professionals, doctors and pharmacists, and patients. The current goal is to include 3,000 patients responding to specific conditions in an active queue for 6 months.
These advances clearly show the importance that medical cannabis can have in France and in the world, both on a therapeutic and well-being aspect. Its accessibility must be controlled by a legal and medical framework, but must not be limited to a narrow field of action for patients with serious pathologies. The daily benefits are numerous, and can provide the majority a natural solution without any side effects. It offers you the opportunity to practice your activity by relieving chronic pain and to recover better, while preserving your health!
